SPRING: The Joy of the In-Between Season

Spring is that magical in-between moment—the cozy cocoon between winter’s chill and summer’s sizzle. It’s a time when the world wakes up and so do we, craving fresh air, vibrant colors, and a little something new. Whether it’s tulips blooming along neighborhood sidewalks or longer evenings perfect for porch-sitting, there’s something about this season that invites us to slow down and enjoy the homes and communities we love.

This is the season when life—and home—feels lighter. We open the windows, pack away the heavy layers, and welcome in sunshine and simplicity. It’s also when many of us feel inspired to refresh our spaces. A quick declutter, a pop of color in a throw pillow, or new planters on the porch can breathe new life into a home without a full renovation.

Spring also brings us back outdoors. Farmers markets reopen, patios fill with friends, and gardens beg to be dug into. Even a short walk around the block becomes a chance to reconnect—with neighbors, with nature, and with the rhythms of our neighborhoods. It’s a great time to notice what makes a place feel like home.

So this spring, lean into the joy of the in-between. Whether you're sprucing up your current space or dreaming of your next one, it’s the perfect season to pause, reset, and appreciate what it means to live well—right where you are.

HOME MAINTENANCE

Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

Springtime in Kansas City brings blooming dogwoods, baseball season, and a fresh start for your home. Whether you're planning to stay put or thinking about making a move, tackling a few key maintenance tasks can help preserve your home’s value, boost curb appeal, and ensure everything is in top shape for the season ahead.

  • Inspect the roof and gutters. After a long Midwest winter, check for loose shingles, debris buildup, or signs of water damage—especially after spring storms roll through.

  • Clean windows and screens. Let that KC sunshine pour in! Wash windows inside and out, and patch or replace damaged screens before bug season.

  • Service your HVAC system. KC summers can get hot and humid—make sure your air conditioning is ready. Replace filters and schedule a professional tune-up.

  • Look for exterior damage. Check your home’s siding, foundation, and paint for cracks or wear that winter may have left behind.

  • Power wash patios, decks, and driveways. Brighten up outdoor spaces and clear away grime left over from snow and ice treatments.

  • Prep your landscaping. Rake up leaves, trim back dead branches, and refresh mulch beds. Plant hardy annuals or perennials for a pop of spring color.

  • Inspect your irrigation system. Turn everything back on and look for leaks or broken sprinkler heads to avoid surprises later.

  • Re-caulk windows and doors. Seal gaps to keep your home energy-efficient through KC’s spring breezes and summer heat.

  • Clean and check lawn equipment. Sharpen mower blades, test engines, and fuel up—grass grows fast once April hits.

  • Declutter garages and sheds. Toss what you don’t need, organize what you do, and create space for gardening and outdoor gear.
