KC Market Snapshot: Steady Prices, Growing Opportunity
September brought a mixed but encouraging market picture across the KC region. Johnson County remained strong with steady price growth and healthy year-to-date sales. Wyandotte and Platte counties saw notable gains in average prices, while Miami and Clay counties reflected the seasonal slowdowns typical of fall.
Across the Heartland, prices are up 6.7% year to date, and inventory continues to rise — giving buyers more opportunities and keeping sellers well-positioned.

As the leaves turn and cooler weather sets in, Kansas City homeowners know that fall is the perfect time to prepare their homes for the winter ahead. Our Midwest seasons can be unpredictable—one day sunny and mild, the next a hard freeze—so a little preparation now can save you from headaches later. Here’s a simple checklist to keep your home cozy, efficient, and ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.
Clean Gutters and Downspouts
Clearing out leaves and debris keeps water flowing freely and protects your roof, siding, and foundation from costly water damage.
Inspect your Roof
A quick check for missing shingles, worn flashing, or loose materials now can help prevent leaks when the snow and ice arrive.
Seal Gaps and Cracks
Walk around your home and check for air leaks around windows, doors, and siding. Sealing them now keeps your home warmer and your energy bills lower.
Service your Furnace
An annual tune-up ensures your heating system runs efficiently and reliably during the coldest months.
Check the Fireplace and Chimney
Before your first fire of the season, schedule a cleaning and inspection to keep your family safe and your fires burning bright.
Rake and Remove Leaves
A healthy lawn in the spring starts with proper care in the fall. Removing excess leaves also helps keep sidewalks and driveways safe.
Test Weatherstripping
Worn or damaged weatherstripping lets in chilly drafts. Replacing it is an easy fix that makes a noticeable difference.
Swap Smoke and CO Detector Batteries
With heaters and fireplaces in use, now is the perfect time to make sure your alarms are working properly.
Prepare your Lawn and Garden for Winter
Trim perennials, clear out annuals, and add mulch to protect plant roots. Fall is also a great time to fertilize your lawn so it comes back lush in the spring.
Check and Clean your Deck or Patio
Sweep off leaves and debris, inspect for loose boards or cracks, and apply a protective sealant if needed. Taking care of your outdoor spaces now will make them last through the winter and be ready for spring enjoyment.
A little fall maintenance now helps protect your home, lower utility costs, and keep things running smoothly through the Kansas City winter. With these tasks checked off, you’ll be ready to sit back and enjoy crisp evenings, warm drinks, and all the charm fall brings to our city.
